About the show
Detective Superintendent Andy Dalziel and his cultured friend and colleague Detective Inspector Pascoe may be total opposites, but their different skills complement one another, making them a crime-busting detective team second to none. Their patch is the town of Wetherton and the beautiful Yorkshire countryside surrounding it.
In Series 9, it is Pascoe’s turn to battle ill health when he suffers life-threatening injuries after a car crash. Dalziel is torn between maintaining a bedside vigil and solving a complicated case involving body parts dumped in a lake and a possible serial killer at the hospital.
Pascoe does recover, but is almost eaten by tigers in the detectives’ next murder case when an animal rights activist is found dead at a private zoo. The gruesome mystery is also connected to a missing Chinese girl and an unsolved killing 25 years ago.
Two more intriguing cases for the detectives to solve are an archaeological dig which unearths a fresh body and a possible wrongful conviction 20 years ago, and a series of murders connected to the local arts centre, big-money art fraud and a kidnapping where a policewoman’s life is at stake.
